Inflectra at GITEX Africa
The team was excited to attend the event and meet local entrepreneurs, potential partners, and also key decision-makers in large companies that were interested in adopting modern platforms for developing and deploying mission-critical systems across the region. Some of the key takeaways for the team were:
- Data Sovereignty: Most of the African companies we spoke to were very keen to emphasize that they were required to ensure that all data on citizens in their country was not just adequately protected but was stored within the geographical borders of their country. At Inflectra, we have made a long-term commitment to providing both public cloud and on-premise / private cloud options for all companies. In many cases this was the first question, and unless we could guarantee this, there was no point for further discussion. This further reinforced our belief that allowing customers to have a choice in their deployment strategy makes more sense than ever before.
- Payment Plans: One thing that was also emphasized is that international payments from local companies to multi-national software companies can be difficult. The issue was not that companies could not afford world-class software, simply that the cash flow and exchange rate regimen meant that companies like Inflectra needed to consider an option for installment payments in addition to annual contracts or monthly credit card billing. As a result of these insights, we are pleased to announce that we now offer installment payment plans for customers in key emerging markets such as Africa and South America.
- Incredible Talent: We were blown away by the number and quality of students, engineers, and technical workers who were looking to broaden their skill sets and get work experience and internships. There is clearly an untapped market for talent that is waiting for a large international software development company to leverage.
- Global Marketplace: The last surprise was how global the world has become in terms of key enabling technologies such as AI, Cloud Computing, Blockchain, Big Data, FinTech, Mobile Payments, and Telecommunications. In Europe and North America, you get a limited view of this, but in Africa, all of the world's players were here—Huawei and Ali Baba from China, Oracle, Microsoft, PwC, Deloitte, Visa from the USA, Orange from Europe, and Dubai Internet City from the UAE.

GITEX Africa 2024
GITEX Africa is an extension of the renowned GITEX Global Technology trade show, originally based in Dubai. As one of the largest tech events in the world, GITEX (Gulf Information Technology Exhibition) has been pivotal in showcasing cutting-edge technologies, fostering innovation, and providing a platform for networking among tech professionals globally. Inflectra was excited to attend the second GITEX Africa event this year, increasing our exposure to one of the fastest growing regions for technology startups and a future innovation powerhouse for the region as a whole..
Why Africa, Why Now?
For the longest time, outside of a few key countries, Africa has generally not been seen as an important region for technology and innovation. Traditionally organizations have seen the continent solely as a place to extract natural resources and conduct tourism. Now, with the emergence of remote work and the ability to be a 'digital nomad,' talent has gone global. Simultaneously, investment in technology and business has also become global, with companies from Europe and North America competing for talent and capital, with equally capable companies coming from China and the Middle East.
Africa, with its young, skilled population, is in a perfect position to be the next growth market for technology companies. Universities in the region have created a huge talent pool for motivated, skilled software developers, data scientists, entrepreneurs, and AI engineers. At the same time, Governments are looking to diversify away from primary industries towards knowledge-based economies, resulting in exciting opportunities for both local and multinational companies to have a first-mover advantage in the region.
