New Jira Marketplace Add-On Available that Displays QA Coverage in Jira

12-Sep-2024 by Inflectra Product News

We are pleased to announce the release of a new Jira Marketplace Add-On for the popular Atlassian Jira platform. This new add-on uses the latest Atlassian Forge technology and improves the user experience viewing key QA metrics inside Jira. This add-on replaces our previous Jira connector that was based on the older Atlassian Connect technology.

What Does The Add-On Do?

The new Spira QA Coverage Add-On lets you monitor test coverage of any user story in Jira, any time, from data managed in SpiraTest, SpiraTeam or SpiraPlan from Inflectra. The test coverage information is shown as a bar-chart directly on the issue page inside Jira:

You can click on the link directly above the bar-chart to access the corresponding requirement (and covering test cases) in Spira:

This lets you see in real-time the test coverage for each user story in Jira.

To display the test coverage bar chart, you simply click on the new icon in the Jira issue toolbar:

Why Did We Replace the Existing Add-On?

This new plugin replaces our legacy SpiraTest Jira Connector. This was also available in the Atlassian marketplace, but it used the older Connect plugin technology that is being deprecated by Atlassian in favor of their newer Forge framework. One of the drawbacks of the old plugin technology was that the add-on was relegated to a side-panel in Jira:

In addition, the old plugin was not able to display a textual legend for the colored indicators, unlike the new bar chart:

We believe that the new plugin represents a major advance in usability. In addition, the new Forge platform will allow us to expand the capabilities of the plugin in future.

Where Do I Get The New Add-On?

The new add-on can be found on the Spira Downloads Page, along with the other Jira integration plugins:

Existing users of the older Connect-based add-on will need to uninstall the add-on and install the new one from the Atlassian Marketplace.

Documentation on the plugin can be found in a dedicated section on SpiraDocs.
