Microsoft Dynamics 365

Overview

Microsoft Dynamics 365 is a line of web-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) and customer relationship management (CRM) software applications from Microsoft. The Microsoft Dynamics focus industries are retail, service, manufacturing, financial services, and the public sector. Microsoft Dynamics 365 offers support for small, medium, and large businesses.

Rapise has special extensions included out of the box that allow it easily test and validate Microsoft Dynamics 365 implementations, reducing the time to regression test customizations and configurations.

Dynamics 365 Enterprise

Microsoft has created a new cloud-based SaaS-only combined ERP/CRM solution called Microsoft Dynamics 365. This provides a new web-based version of Dynamics AX (renamed Dynamics 365 for Operations), combined with a new web-based version of Dynamics NAV (called Dynamics 365 Business Edition) and an updated Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online (called Dynamics 365 for Sales).

This new integrated, ERP/CRM is provided solely through Microsoft Azure and is completely web-based.

Rapise can test instances of Microsoft Dynamics 365 using a combination of its standard web libraries and special extensions developed for Dynamics 365. Rapise has support for both Dynamics 365 for Operations and Dynamics 365 for Sales:

Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations

Rapise has support for Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations using a combination of its standard web browser libraries and special DomDynamicsAX library that knows how to handle unique UI elements inside Dynamics such as the menu bar, navigation controls, form controls (combo, dates, etc.) and data grids.

Dynamics 365 for Sales (CRM)

Rapise has support for Dynamics 365 for Sales (CRM) using a combination of its standard web browser libraries and special DomDynamicsCrm library that know how to handle unique UI elements inside Dynamics such as the CRM data grids.

Rapise provides support for both the original “classic” Dynamics 365 for Sales interface and the new mobile responsive interface called “Unified Client Interface”. The Unified Client Interface (UCI) was introduced in v9. This uses responsive design principles to provide a uniform interface across any screen size, device, form or browser.

When recording a test using Rapise, you use the same web browser libraries that you use to record other web tests.

Most of the Dynamics 365 for Sales user interface will be tested using the standard browser library for your web browser of choice (e.g. Chrome or Edge).

In addition, there are special controls inside Dynamics 365 that Rapise has specialized support for. For that reason, you'll also see the DomDynamicsCrm library added to your test as well as the browser one. This DomDynamicsCrm library adds additional rules that identify certain Dynamics 365 objects to make testing easier.

Dynamics 365 Business Central

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system from Microsoft. The product is part of the Microsoft Dynamics family, and is the successor product to Microsoft Dynamics NAV, Microsoft Dynamics GP, and Microsoft Dynamics SL that is focused on medium sized businesses that would not use the larger Dynamics AX or Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations suite.

When recording a test using Rapise, you use the same web browser libraries that you use to record other web tests.

Most of the Dynamics 365 Business Central user interface will be tested using the standard browser library for your web browser of choice (e.g. Internet Explorer HTML, Firefox HTML, and Chrome HTML).

In addition, there are special controls inside Dynamics 365 Business Central that Rapise has specialized support for. For that reason, you'll also see the DomDynamicsNAV library added to your test as well as the browser one. This DomDynamicsNAV library adds additional rules that identify certain Dynamics 365 Business Central objects to make testing easier.

Dynamics CRM

Microsoft Dynamics CRM is the name of an older on-premise web-based customer relationship management application from Microsoft that predates Dynamics 365. Dynamics CRM provides sales, service, and marketing capabilities.

Rapise can be used to test installations of Dynamics CRM running on a locally hosted web-server:

Dynamics is completely web-based and uses a web browser to access the user interface. Therefore, when recording a test using Rapise, you use the same web browser libraries that you use to record other web tests:

  • Most of the Dynamics CRM user interface will be tested using the standard browser library for your web browser of choice (e.g. Internet Explorer HTML, Firefox HTML, and Chrome HTML).
