Updated Synchronization for Jira Cloud Now Released

23-Jun-2025 by Adam Sandman Product News

We're excited to announce the latest update to our Jira Cloud Data Synchronization tool: version 8.0! This release brings a host of new features and important bug fixes, designed to improve your experience and enhance the integration between Jira Cloud and Spira.

New Features:

As described in this earlier article, the new functionality includes:

New Sync Mode "Complete"

In this version, we’ve introduced a brand-new synchronization mode called "Complete." As the name states, this is the most complete sync mode available, meaning you can sync Tasks, Requirements, and Incidents bidirectionally between Jira and Spira, ensuring the data flow between the two platforms.

Complete sync mode in the Spira/Jira plugin

Option to Sync Epic/Story Hierarchy

You now have the option to synchronize the Epic/Story hierarchy into Spira Requirements, and vice versa.

This provides a clearer and more structured view of your project hierarchies across both Jira and Spira.

Automatic Mapping

When enabled, the Jira dataSync plugin will automatically map standard and custom properties, based on name matching, for all the non-mapped property values.

Support for Syncing Custom Fields Release Type

Version 8.0 now supports syncing custom fields of type "Release", allowing for more flexible data synchronization.

Mapping Multiple Jira Statuses to One Spira Status

For both Tasks and Requirements, you can now map multiple Jira statuses to a single Spira status, simplifying your workflow management.

Option to Not Sync Comments

Gain greater control over your data transfer with the new option to selectively exclude comments from the synchronization process.

Option to Not Sync some Jira Types

You can now choose to exclude specific Jira Types from synchronization, allowing for a more tailored data exchange.

Support for Attachment Sync on Updates

Attachments are now also synchronized during updates, ensuring all relevant files are consistently available in both Jira and Spira.

Bidirectional sync of Releases

Releases (versions in Jira) are now bi-directionally synced, even if they are not associated with any artifact or work item.

Rich Text Enhancements

We’ve made improvements to the rich text formatting of description fields for smoother and more accurate data transfer. Besides formatting improvements, you can now see embedded images syncing between the two systems, as well as references to embedded videos and files. A warning message is added when it’s not possible to sync a field bidirectionally.

Users can also use plain text bi-directional synching (if they prefer) using the new option ‘Use Plain Text’:

Support for Time Tracking fields

When enabled, the time logged against Requirements, Incidents, and Tasks will sync between the two systems
