Inflectra.ai Introduces Conversational AI in Spira — and Sets the Stage for Project Intelligence

10-Sep-2026 by Adam Sandman Product News

We’re excited to announce the latest evolution of Inflectra.ai inside Spira: a new conversational chat experience that lets users interact with AI directly from within their Spira workspace.

Until now, many Inflectra.ai capabilities have focused on specific, high-value actions: generating test cases, identifying risks, creating requirements, analyzing coverage, summarizing information, and helping teams complete common software delivery tasks more quickly. The new chat experience adds another dimension: users can now have an ongoing conversation with Inflectra.ai when they need help, guidance, or clarification while working in Spira.

It is also an important step toward something much bigger.

AI Assistance, Without Leaving Spira

The new Helper AI Agent gives users a conversational interface directly inside Spira. Instead of needing to leave the application, search documentation, or start a separate conversation with a general-purpose AI assistant, users can ask Inflectra.ai for help while they work. The experience supports multiple conversation threads, allowing users to keep discussions around different questions, tasks, or areas of work separate and return to them as needed.

Chat inside Inflectra.ai

This makes Inflectra.ai feel less like a collection of individual AI features and more like a persistent assistant embedded alongside your software delivery workflow. For example, a user learning a feature in Spira could ask the assistant to explain how it works, clarify terminology, or help them understand the best way to approach a particular activity. They can continue asking follow-up questions naturally rather than having to reformulate the entire problem each time.

Asking about requirements inline

That conversational continuity is important because real work rarely consists of a single question and a single answer. Understanding a problem usually involves exploration, follow-up questions, and refinement.

From AI Help to AI Project Intelligence

The Helper AI Agent is also the foundation for the next major evolution of Inflectra.ai.

Today, the new chat experience is primarily designed to help users as they work with Spira. Our next step is to connect this conversational interface more deeply with the information stored inside Spira itself.

That means moving from questions such as:

“How do I create a risk in Spira?”

toward questions such as:

“What are the biggest risks to this release?”

Or:

“Which requirements have the weakest test coverage?”

“What changed in this project over the last two weeks?”

“Which defects are most likely to affect our upcoming release?”

“Summarize the current state of this program and tell me where I should focus.”

The distinction is significant. Instead of simply helping users operate Spira, Inflectra.ai will increasingly be able to help them understand what is happening inside Spira.

Powered by the Next Generation Spira MCP Server

A key part of this next stage is Inflectra’s new Spira Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server. The latest generation of the Spira MCP Server expanded beyond read-only access and now enables AI systems to interact bidirectionally with Spira, retrieving information as well as creating, updating, organizing, and collaborating around lifecycle artifacts. It provides a standardized interface through which AI agents can work with requirements, tasks, incidents, tests, custom properties, artifact associations, and other information managed inside Spira. The upcoming open Inflectra.ai chat experience will use this same foundation internally. Rather than exposing users to APIs, query languages, or the mechanics of the MCP protocol, Inflectra.ai will provide a natural-language interface over the lifecycle information already stored in Spira.

With this new open chat, powered by MCP, you ask the question. Inflectra.ai determines what information it needs, retrieves the relevant context from Spira, and uses that context to help generate an answer.

Turning Lifecycle Data Into Answers

Software organizations already collect enormous amounts of valuable information during the development lifecycle.

Requirements capture what needs to be built. Tasks describe the work being performed. Test cases show how functionality is being validated. Defects reveal where quality problems are emerging. Risks identify uncertainty. Releases provide the delivery structure connecting all of these activities together.

The challenge is that understanding the bigger picture often requires someone to manually navigate reports, dashboards, artifact lists, traceability views, and multiple projects.

Conversational project intelligence changes that interaction model.

Instead of asking users to determine which report contains the answer, the goal is to let them simply ask the question they actually care about:

  • For project managers, that could mean asking for a summary of delivery risks before a steering meeting.
  • For QA managers, it could mean identifying areas where testing appears insufficient.
  • For product owners, it could mean understanding which requirements have generated the most defects or implementation activity.
  • For executives, it could mean asking for a concise summary of the health of a portfolio or program without having to navigate through every underlying artifact.

The underlying Spira data remains the system of record. Inflectra.ai becomes a new way of understanding and interacting with it.

Building Toward an Agentic SDLC

This evolution is part of our broader vision for Inflectra.ai: moving beyond generative AI toward agentic software delivery.

Inflectra.ai already operates natively inside Spira to assist with activities such as creating artifacts, analyzing requirements, generating tests, and improving coverage. Our roadmap extends that model toward AI systems that can use project context, reason across lifecycle information, and eventually help execute increasingly sophisticated workflows.

Conversational AI is an important interface for that future.

A chat window may look simple, but behind it sits the potential for something far more powerful: an AI assistant that understands your questions, understands the structure and relationships within your software lifecycle, and can use that context to help your team make better decisions.

Available Now - With More Coming Soon

The new Inflectra.ai Helper AI Agent is available now as the latest addition to the Inflectra.ai experience in Spira. Users can start multiple conversations, ask questions naturally, and receive AI assistance without leaving their Spira environment.

And this is only the first stage, the upcoming open chat functionality will connect that conversational experience with the next-generation Spira MCP Server, enabling users to ask open-ended questions about their own projects and lifecycle data.

We believe that represents an important shift in how teams will use ALM platforms.

The future is not just about storing more project information or producing more dashboards. It is about being able to ask your software delivery platform: “What do I need to know?”, and getting a useful answer.
