Can't adjust column width in incident list

We added a custom field (date and time) and it's kind of a long name "Proposed Resolution Date" but when you drag the column width shorter than the name, the up/down sorting arrows disappear and the little line to drag the column width also disappears, and there's no way to undo it.  removing/adding, rearranging, dragging the other column widths around it.  The only solution seems to be deleting/recreating the column but that deletes its contents and doesn't stop you from getting into the same broken state.  Is there somewhere in the UI to manually change the column width value to get out of this state.

I can only insert a picture from a URL?  I don't have a public website handy to host it...
