Adding Test Cases to Test Sets = No Release link

If I add test cases to a test set (which has a release linked to it), the test cases do not get linked to the release.  This causes reporting to not work correctly.  I have recently discovered I can add tests to a release then create a test set from the release, but that is not always practical; I often need to change the content of the release (add and/or remove test cases).  This also applies the opposite way; if i remove a test case from a test set, it does not automatically remove it from the release.  This is particularly frustrating because not only do you need to manually add/remove from the release AND the test set, but you have to manually ensure the release and test set mirror each other.

I cannot see a use case for why you would not want to automatically link test cases within a test set to the release associated to that test set.  Can this functionality be added?  Even if there was a pop up which gave you the option to link to the release when you add/remove test cases from the test set.

Hi Luke

If you add the test cases to the test set (which already has a release set) and then execute the test set, then the test cases will be automatically added to the release.

Thank you David, that's good to know however it doesn't resolve my specific problem.  I need to be able to run extracts of the contents of test sets prior to test execution...

You could just click Execute and not continue the execution, that would be sufficient.
