Through a few revisions and different ideas we still felt there was something more we could have done. What is the best way to set up these tests so that the results can be reported on by operating system and by the actual test case at the same time. For example. I want to see how many times test X was run against Windows 7. A also want to be able to see all the test run against Windows 7 Thoughts? This is the situation: Testcase A must be run on all machine configs: 1, 2 and 3. Testcase B must be run on config 1. It cannot be run on 2 and 3. Testcase C must be run on config 1 and 2. It cannot be run on 3. Whats the best practice here? Is it to create a folder structure for each machine configuration and clone test cases that applies to more than one configuration into those folders? Or is there a way of working with custom fields and list to make this work? I must know before I run the tests what configuration that is going to be tested in that run i.e. I want to test one configuration at a time, not mix them.

<a10:updated>2025-01-05T17:40:03-05:00</a10:updated>

Including comments on an incident email

Is there anyway to include the comments (or other custom properties) on an incident email?

<a10:updated>2011-05-13T13:52:35-04:00</a10:updated>

How to add Automation TAB in the spiratest?

Hi, I am unable to add the "Automation " tab in teh new testcase creation.I tried to login with admin user and go to the administarion page and integarion ,BUT I DID NOT FIND INTEGARION . Hi, we currently have about 1000 testcases in our project. 20 testcases of them can be executed with 4 different variables (each having their values): - variable A with values YES/NO - variable B with values 1,2,3 - variable C with values 4,5,6 - variable D with values YES/NO/Planned (resulting in a total of 20x54=1080 combinations) options that I have: - create 1 testcase for each combination, but that is not maintainable - work with a custom field for each variable, but I only have 20 tests out of the 1000 that use these fields, so gives too much clutter - use parameters in the test. Problem here is that I am not triggered for this parameter until actual execution. Ideally I am triggered about this parameter the moment that I add the test in a test set. On that moment, I remember that I should add multiple instances to guarantee that at least some of the combinations are executed. Anybody had a similar case and found an elegant solution? Ideally, I would like to set a parameter on test set, where the tests in the test set having a parameter defined in the test case with the same name, take the value of the test set upon execution. In that way, I create test sets with parameters for variables A to D with specific values, and in that way, different combinations are executed in a controlled way. thx for some help! Filip

Hi, part of our organization works with multiple products (each having their own releases), sharing some requirements. How do I manage requirement coverage for this? As requirements can only be linked to 1 release, I cannot link them to each product(release) the apply to. eg: requirement A is applicable for - product 1 release 2.0 - product 2 release 1.5 how to organize releases to cope with this? Will spira 4.1 introduce products in requirements? and if so, how do they relate to releases? thx for your reply! Filip

We have lot of testers and test data management has been quite difficult before Spira-time. As a new user of the tool i want to find out how it can help as to be more productive and efficient in that area. Testing is mostly manual testing and the same data can be used between different testing iterations (rollback to baseline is possible). But one tester's can ruineach others tests by using the same test data. I actually have two ideas which might not be new in this forum. 1. Create a new Incidet type called Test Data and give it states "Open", "Reserved" and "Blocked" with some own attributes. Can i then link my Test Casese to those new Test Data elements? 2. Use Test Case elements itselves as Test Data elements by grouping those "special test cases" into Test Data directory and inside it into different kind of test data directories like Persons, Companies, Estates, Accounts etc.. Use defaults fields and eg. if Owner is filled, it will be the indication that the test data is reserved. Link then the real Test Case elements with data type Test Case elements. Is that possile? In the execution time - can you see the linked element also? 3. Some better way? Hi there, I am looking for an easy way to identify the test cases, that are not assigned to a relase for the purpose of mass-assigning them with "tools". Unfortunately, there is no column in test cases on which I could filter on, there is just the drop down to restrict selection to a particular release or all releases, but not for not assigned ones. I have tried "Test Case Detailed Report" with details on "Release" but there are the same selection restrictions as mentioned above. Any ideas? Thanks, Florian

Hello dear reader ;) I did add some requirements to the requirement list and added test for each requirement. With this I can see the coverage and test progress for each requirement which is good. Now I add requirements to a release or iteration and would expect the test information gets linked as well. But when I create a test set from that release or iteration it is just empty. Also in the release or iteration list I get shown no coverage for tests. Is it me doing something wrong or is it the tool not supporting this way of using the requirement-test linking information. It feels like redundant and risky to me to have to add the tests again and can not rely on the requirement-test linking in the first place. Thanks for any type of feed back. Cheers Werner

Dear all, I have to implement testcases so called "lifecycle" ... which for me is to enter (1) an instruction, to modify (2), verify (3) up to processed (9) or deleted (10). Full details are not important here. The point is, that I do have lifecycle testcases for different instruction types. The first step how to enter (1) is different ... but all other steps (2) up to (10) are exactly the same. Copying the testcase a lot of times is a bad option in my opinion, as maintenance eg. changes to the description or reorder of steps will take huge effort. -> So I decided to create a "reusable testcase component" (it's just a normal testcase) which includes all steps (2) up to (10) and than I created one testcase for each instruction type with a speciffic step (1) and as step (2) I linked to the reusable component. This gets me all the other steps needed. Up to that point fine for me. :o) Now I have 2 issues (and hope somebody can help): - For changes at the "reusable component" it would be useful to know in which testcases the component was linked (as the change will affect all the testcases). I am able to see it from the testcase that links the component but not the other way round. - After executing the testcase including the linked in testcase component the testcase and the component are marked as e.g. passed. Fine. After deleting the the test run the testcase itself is retested BUT not the "component". Any ideas? Thanks for your help. BEST REGARDS OLIVER

Hello

There is no specific Quality Control team in my organisation unlike the big giants who do have dedicated support in this area. In my situation, I am dealing with a third-party supplier, a start-up organisation who are developing a software system. As a technical lead on the project, I am managing the test environment in Spira Team. As I have not witnessed any quality control mechanisms in place from the supplier end, I want to define a quality dimension to the project to evaluate the system quality and the test quality. I am seeking advice if there are ways of implementing the quality dimension within Spira Team and any other best practices you use to evaluate these parameters? Hi, In our project we are working with releases and sprints. Each release consists with some sprints, is there a way to add requirements to a sprint AND a release? Now our requirements are attached to a sprint, but if I want an overview for a whole release there is no way to do that. Kind Regards, Bart

Hi,

I have some testers that have created a Test Set containing ~40 test cases or so. They've executed the test set to begin the process, but they want to only have certain test cases within the test set accessible to certain users. We've tried setting the owner for the test case within the test set overview to that user and see if it will allow them to resume the test set on that test case, but the resume option isn't showing up for the tester on their home page. Is there a way that we can do this? A quick example:

We have started using SpiraTest as test tool for our ERP upgrade activities. As part of the testing we also execute Integration test where we track a specific transaction through the different stages (e.g. submit purchase orde fro supplier, register material receipt for this Purchase Order, enter payables invoice, match invoice to the receipt, pay invoice). One way to put this in SpiraTest is to define a Test Set, where the Test Set represents the complete process. Then we assign individual Test Cases to this Test Set, where each test cases represents a specific process step (e.g. Create Purchase Order), and optionally weassign these test cases to different individuals/roles so the process can flow from Procurement to Materials to Finance. Are there may be other ways for configuring these process tests that somebody came accross in their test environment?

<a10:updated>2022-10-03T17:40:51-04:00</a10:updated>

How to notify next tester that a test case has been completed

How would you do the above in SpiraTest? Were quite excited about the Test Configuration feature, where we could Test Case parameters like Client1, Client2, Server and create custom lists with all the currently supported app and server versions, but then we miss out on the traceability via Release and Build. Alternatively, we could account for the fact that each of our 5 software projects above has their own releases and builds by creating 5 corresponding SpiraTest projects. However, how would we deal with Test Cases which involve multiple software projects (see above)? We could use the cross-project feature introduced in SpiraTest 5.1 by expressing our expectations for such multi-project scenarios as SpiraTest Requirements, copy the same Test Case into all SpiraTest Projects representing the involved software projects, and link all those Test Cases to the one Requirement. However, how would execute all those Test Cases? Using Automation, were scheduling Test Sets and have RemoteLaunch execute them. How would that work if were running a test which involves multiple software projects, represented by multiple Test Case clones across corresponding SpiraTest projects? Any suggestions very welcome!

<a10:updated>2020-07-29T11:09:50-04:00</a10:updated>

Best way to group multiple test case of applications into different areas?

I have a 60 applications to test a few are big, that I can split it to a separate project into SpiraTest, but many are not so big and all of them are in one huge bag.
