Selenium

Selenium is a test tool that allows you to write automated web application user interface tests in any programming language against any HTTP website using any mainstream JavaScript-enabled browser. Selenium comes in two parts.

  • A server which can automatically launch and kill supported browsers, and acts as a HTTP proxy for web requests from those browsers. Version 1.0 of the server was called Selenium Remote-Control (RC), version 2.0 was called WebDriver.
  • Client applications that send commands to the Selenium server in a special language (called Selenese) that tell it what operations to perform on the launched web browser.

You can use SpiraPlan together with RemoteLaunch to schedule and remotely launch instances of Selenium-Remote Control (RC) or Selenium WebDriver on different computers and have the testing results be transmitted back to SpiraPlan. Automation Testing Tool FAQs

What is automation testing?

In software testing, test automation is the process of performing testing activities with little or no human interaction, in order to achieve greater efficiency. Automation testing uses software separate from the software being tested to control the execution of tests and the comparison of actual outcomes with predicted outcomes.

What are automation testing tools?

Test automation tools are tools that help teams automate their software testing needs. These tools are pieces of software that enable people to define testing tasks that are afterwards run with as little human interaction as possible. They help in the efficiency of software development.

What are quality assurance automation tools?

These tools are for quality assurance of software development through automated testing. Quality assurance automation tools can take on repetitive tasks and error prone tasks to free up time for other more complex problem solving during the software development processes.

What is the difference between Automation Testing Vs. Manual Testing?

The main difference between automation testing and manual testing is with manual testing, a human is responsible for testing the functionality of the software in the way a user would. Automation testing is done through an automation testing tool, so more time can be spent on higher value tasks, such as exploratory tests while automating time-consuming tests, such as regression tests.  With automated testing time is spent maintaining test scripts overall, however this will increase test coverage and scalability when compared to manual testing.

What is Automated Cross-Browser Testing?

Automated cross-browser testing allows for automated test runs of applications across many browser, device and platform combinations. Cross-browser testing helps with pinpointing browser-specific compatibility errors so they can be debugged quickly.
